Civic Fields is the civic project of me, Ned O’Gorman, a writer and teacher at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Here I take what’s now been a quarter century of writing, teaching, and thinking about public life and public culture to you, the reader. Why? As we look around, we see too many rhetorical arsonists torching American public discourse and public life. This newsletter is an attempt at firefighting. It is also an attempt at imaginative repair.
